[:1]I was wondering what the generally acceptable min dps is for heroics. I was practicing my spec on targets in stormwind. I was doing about 9 K on the targets. I thought that would be good enough to try a heroic. I was only doing about 6.5 K in the heroic I tried.
Am I missing something here? I didn't think there would be that much of a drop off from targets in SW to heroics. I expected a little drop off for moving around during battles, but not that much. I was running regulars as I was leveling, and wasn't really keeping track of my dps.I am used to playing healers, so this is my first crack at dps, and this toon is a reatively fresh 85.
Does it matter if I use the non elite targets vs elite targets?
Anyone have a recommended rotation to use?
What is a good general rule I can use to let me know I am ready for heroics withouth having people complain about my dps?

You're WAY off the heroic hit cap. I only know the raid hit cap (1742), but just hover over your hit in your character profile until you can hit the level 87s.
Your stats should be intel > hit to cap > mastery > haste/crit (I haven't played arc since October so I'm not sure how haste/crit interact still)
Being arcane you NEED to hit everything because your ABs hit for so high, missing one 40k or whatever AB will really hurt your DPS. Make sure you stack AB to 4 until you hit 90% mana, pop your gem, hit arcane power and whatever CDs you have, spam AB to 35% mana, evocate, and try to hover as close to 90-95% mana as possible using Arc Missiles to clear your AB stacks, or an ice lance or whatever you need to do to clear.
You can ignore the above if you know your rotation, but I included it in case.
I'd say around 300k. If your mage can't hit that then you're doing it wrong;)
