I havent played on my mage since 4.2 beginning, and then it was all about arcane. No researching around, ive found that there are many mixed messages on what spec (fire, arcane) is most viable in 4.3 raiding. Any insight?
The brutal reality, sorry (I guess?) is that both fire and arcane are viable.
What matters is not the spec, but how good that person is at playing their spec.
Each has their pros and cons in terms of single target DPS and AOE.
And don't you dare force a fire mage to respec just for the extra 3% buff.
BTW, don't look at my toon, I'm currently practicing and learning fire, but my main spec is arcane.
I find Arcane does MUCH better in dungeons due to the fights being shorter whereas I do much better as fire in raids.
Spamming AB and popping CDs on dungeon bosses and toppin' meters is hard.
Both fire and arcane are equally viable in 4.3. Your best bet is to roll both. You can try each spec on each fight, decide which you like better in general or which is stronger for your raid group on a particular fight. They've buffed fire enough that your decision to be arcane or fire comes down to utility, raid buffs, and your preference, rather than arcane just straight up doing more damage all the time.
Fire and arcane are both about equal right now, really. Pretty much comes down to raid composition and personal preference.
Hmmm. I used to play fire, but when arcane become the viable specced and thoroughly enjoyed that as well. Decisions decisions.
