I just dusted off this mage who I started eons ago, and I decided to level the new hottness, arcane. Well, I quickly became bored of the montony of spamming a single ability, so I decided to respec fire. I find fire to be a much more enjoyable spec, but I have some questions regarding the abilities.
In dungeons, I typically open with Pyro, as the tank runs in, and then I try to keep Fireblast on cooldown, as I fish for Hot Streak procs. Otherwise, I am spamming fireball. From what I've read, Fireblast shouldn't be used in our rotations However, I find the rotation to be much more dynamic when using it, due to the increased Hot Streak procs. Also, spreading DOTs through Impact is great, but it is such a rare occurrance for me. When we get in large pacs, it's nearly impossible to line up a Combustion, Pyro, and Ignite and then proc Impact. I try to maximize DPS this way, but I have honestly only had this happen once in three levels. Am I doing something wrong? Or is a full scale Impact spread just a rare occurrance?
Considering this, why the heck can't Blizz do something to increase the chances of this occurring? Maybe allow Fireblast to spread DOTs 100% of the time, or increase the likelyhood of proc'ing Ignite? I think this would make the process much easier.
Mage community has been begging blizzard to make impact spreading 100% on hit but I guess they like to add more RNG factors to the spec.
I'm not sure if you mean to proc Impact or just having it spread everything. But after you get Improved Flamestrike it becomes much easier to proc Impact (since it'll cast both aoes at once basically doubling the chance impact). I normally start aoe pulls casting Pyro, Lb, then Blast wave (with imp flamestrike it'll cast flamestrike too for the ground dot which is nice by itself) i'll normaly have an impact proc i can sit on til i get a decent ignite for combustion by then. Hope that helps at all.
